Tap Kids
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” – Jesus, in Matthew 19:14
At Tapestry, we believe in weaving the whole family into our community of faith – and that includes a vital and lively Children’s Ministry. TapKids provides a fun and safe place for children to: Know, Grow, and Go!
Worship & Saturday School
It is never too young to worship God. Children can experience God and learn how to worship through observing the adults and participating with their families.
On Saturday, children join their parents at the beginning of the service to worship together before heading to their age-specific time of learning.
Tap Nights Kids welcomes children of all abilities and backgrounds. We provide nursery care to infants, toddlers, preschoolers and then a program for Kindergarten to Grade 5.
What does it look like on Saturday night?
It is suggested that families with young children arrive 5-10 minutes before the worship service and head to the volunteer sitting at the kids check-in station in the foyer so their children can be added to the list of participants for the coming evening
After check-in, families will head to the sanctuary together to enjoy the first two worship songs together before the service host will pray for the kids and dismiss them.
Parents of nursery-aged children are asked to bring their kids to the nursery and join in for a short circle time led by a volunteer. Afterwards parents have the option to leave while their children play with the other kids and adult and youth volunteers.
Children in Kindergarten to Grade 5 will meet a volunteer in the foyer and then head to one of the kids rooms for a Bible story and life application lesson, before having a time to play together with the other kids and volunteers.
At the end of the sermon children join their parents for communion and the remainder of worship. The older kids are sent back on their own and parents of nursery-aged children are asked to pick up their children.
If parents prefer to keep their children with them in the service they are welcome to do so.
Earmuffs for children are available in the basket in the sanctuary near the entrance door.
Awana
Awana at the Tapestry is a Bible-based discipleship program for children ages 4 to 12. It runs weekly on Saturdays from 3:00-4:30 pm, from October to May. Registration opens in August until spots are full. This program is run by the Tapestry Richmond campus, but they graciously welcome Tap Nights kids and their friends to join in.
Awana is a fun and friendly environment to build friendships, learn about the Bible in an age-appropriate way, and grow in faith. Not only do children participate in Awana, but so do parents. Parents can help children with the handbook work and Bible memory verses, engage in conversation with their children, or volunteer at Awana. When parents walk alongside their children in their faith journey, it builds stronger families.
One of the Tap Nights families says this about Awana:
“When we initially put our son in Awana we thought it would be a good way to expose him to some more fun activities while burning some energy right before church. Little did we know that Awana would become such an integral part of our family life. On a weekly basis now we learn new bible verses and sing songs together to help learn the books of the Bible. Not only has this helped our son learn the basics of our Christian faith, he's also seeing other ‘big kids’ serve and lead as mentors and examples of how strong Christians build up those around them. Moreover, it's also helped us as parents re-experience the joys of ‘Sunday School’ all over again.”
VBS
The Tapestry Richmond campus runs a one-week Vacation Bible School (VBS) every summer and generously invites Tap Nights kids and their friends to join in on the fun. The week-long camp is filled with fun games, creative crafts, active worship and engaging Bible stories. Kids make new friends and discover God’s story in their lives. Dates and registration information for VBS comes up in late April each year.
